In celebration of Charles Darwin’s 201st birthday, the Evolutionary Studies Program at the State University of New York at New Paltz will host evolutionist Dr. Niles Eldredge of the American Museum of Natural History in a lecture titled “Darwin: Discovering the Tree of Life,” which begins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, in Lecture Center 100.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a question and answer period and a reception.
Eldredge is the Curator of Paleontology and organizer/creator of the Darwin exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History. He is the author of “Life in Balance” (1998); “The Pattern of Evolution” (1999); and “The Triumph of Evolution” and “Failure of Creationism” (2000). He is also the co-editor of “Evolution: Education and Outreach.”
In addition, there will be a 4:30 p.m. workshop on Teaching Evolution in American Schools, which is co-sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center (MHTC).
