Swimming Sweeps Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY– The New Paltz men’s and women’s swimming team swept Oneonta Friday evening in the SUNYAC opener for the Hawks. The men defeated the Red Dragons 152-108 and the women won 154-102 for the team’s first win of the season.

The Hawks set four pool records at Oneonta. Men’s 400 Medley Relay (3:42), Jess Lester in 200 Free, Women’s 200 Free Relay (1:44), Men’s 200 Free Relay (1:31.1).

The women’s team won 10 events and finished second in eight. The relay team of Marissa Morris, Becky Baker, Yuka Suzuka and Allison Wells won the 400 Yard Medley Relay in 4:14.80 and the team of Jessica Lester, Katina Lown, Kate Genovese and Allie Moorhead finished second with a time of 4:22.61.

Morris, Lizzie Lodinsky and Molly Hoarty finished one, two and three in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Morris touched in at 11:21.46 followed by Lodinsky at 11:43.68 and Hoarty in 11:48.77.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Lester won in a time of 2:01.71 and Melinda Pullen finished at 2:06.47 for second place. Suzuka won the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:03.06 and Baker won the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:10.53.

In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Lown won with a time of 25.88 and Taylor Henshaw touched at 27.42 for third place. Wells, Lori Brown and Henshaw finished one, two and three in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Wells won with a time of 56.64, Brown finished at 58.76 and Henshaw third with a time of 1:01.05.

In the 200 Yard Backstroke, Morris and Lester finished with the top two spots. Morris touched in at 2:16.75 and Lester at 2:18.80. Baker and Suzuka battled each other for the top spot in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Baker was able to beat out her teammate for the win at 2:37.43 and Suzuka finished at 2:40.42.

Hoarty won the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:43.68 and teammate Lodinsky finished .22 seconds behind for second place.

On the men’s side, the men won eight events and finished second in 12 events. The relay team of Jesse Sweeney, Rob Webb, Steve Cozzolongo, and Corey Lomas won the 400 Yard Medley Relay in 3:42.58 and the team of Marc Battisti, Keith MacDonald, Sam Gaynes, and Billy Papetti finished second with a time of 3:51.91.

Matt Demerest finished second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:09.37. Pete Nastasi finished second in the 200 Yard Freestyle touching in at 1:49.06.

In the 100 Yard Backstroke Rob Webb finished second touching in at 58.60. In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Cozzolongo and Pat Rathbun finished in the top two spots. Cozzolongo touched in at 1:03.60 and Rathbun at 1:07.86.

Ray Amato finished second in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:15.59. Matt Demerest and MacDonald battled each other for the top spot in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Demerest was able to beat out his teammate for the win at 23.12 and MacDonald finished at 23.47.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle Cozzolongo and Nastasi earned the top spots. Cozzolongo touched in at 49.31 and Nastasi at 51.20. Sweeney won the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:04.30.

Andrew Outcault and Eric LeClaire earned the top two spots in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Outcault touching in at 2:30.03 and LeClaire at 2:34.86. Brian Bennett finished second place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:18.92.

In the 100 Yard Butterfly Jeremy Borrelli touched in at 58.70 earning second place. Battisti touched in at 4:35.23 earning second place in the 400 Yard IM.

The 200 Yard Freestyle was won by the team of MacDonald, Rathbun, Demerest, and Cozzolongo with a time of 1:31.12.

The Hawks return to the pool Saturday November 14th against Rowan. Meet time is set for 1:00 pm.
