Hawks Clipped By #19 Stevens in Overtime
HOBOKEN, NJ- The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team concluded their season with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Ducks from Stevens Institute of Technology, Wednesday evening on De Baun Athletic Complex.
The Hawks struck first to take the lead on the Ducks when Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa/Massapequa) shot was blocked by Ellyn Griggs and Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake/North Warren) was there for the rebound and the goal in the 31st minute. It was Schloss’s 13th goal and Bergmann’s sixth assist of the season.
The Ducks responded with a goal in the 33rd minute, when Erin Broderick pass from the penalty corner found Marguerite Chavez at the top of the circle 14 yards out for the goal.
Stevens would score the game-winner in the 79th minute when Chavez pass off the penalty corner found Kara Borzillo on the left corner for the 2-1 victory.
Ellyn Griggs made one save and allowed one goal in 78:26 minutes played for the win in net. The Ducks improve to 15-3 overall.
Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock/Onteora) recorded the loss in net, stopping five shots and allowing two goals in 78:26 minutes played. The Hawks conclude the 2009 season with an 8-11 overall record.
