Farmingdale Slips Past Hawks

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to Farmingdale State College in the championship game in the Rino’s Pizza Tip-Off Tournament by the score of 69-63 (Box Score).

Senior Maggie Farrell was named to the All-Tournament Team after netting 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sophomore Caitlin Irwin had a team-high 15 points and six rebounds and senior Carly Minehan had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

Farmingdale State Kim Blakney had a double-double with game-high 25 points and 12 steals and earned All-Tournament Team with her performance. Kamaya Miller netted nine points and had six rebounds and four steals. Tournament MVP, Juanita Chappel netted seven points and had four steals.

The Hawks battled back after being down by 10 points in the second half to take the lead, 60-58 with 5:59 remaining in the game. The Rams would finish the game on an 11-3 run to win the championship.

In the first half, the Hawks jumped out early scoring the first 10 points of the game. The Rams responded with a 20-3 run over the next eight minutes to take a 20-13 lead. The Rams pushed their lead to as many as 12 in the half, but the Hawks were able to cut the lead to six at 36-30 at the break.

The Hawks fall to 2-1 on the season and return to the court Tuesday, November 24 at Lehman College at 5:30 p.m.
