5th Annual Leaf Rake A Success
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz student-athletes reached out to the community of New Paltz to help over 35 families rake their lawns on Sunday, November 1st. The student-athletes wanted to thank the community of New Paltz for their support.
The letter below was written by Spense and Doris Rohrlick:
“WHO ARE THOSE TWO and why are they raking my lawn? This was my initial reaction while blowing leaves from the front of my driveway this morning. That was when I spotted two young women at the side of my home…raking my leaves! I immediately thought that it must be my new neighbor who doesn’t know quite yet where our respective lawns meet. Was I ever wrong? As I rounded the side of my home, the two became 13. All of them young, all women and all raking my leaves in my yard and brother (or sister) do I have leaves! Who were they and why were they helping me? The answer was a cheerful “Community Service”. It turned out that all the young women are members of the SUNY New Paltz Woman’s Lacrosse team. They wanted to thank the New Paltz community at large for the support it has given to the college in general and athletics in particular. Furthermore, these young women wanted to increase the community’s awareness and garner our support for one of the nation’s oldest sports – Lacrosse which has been recently added to the SUNY New Paltz athletic program.
When asked if I could do something to show the team my appreciation for all their hard work, the Captain of the Lacrosse team, Helene Rotolo of Holbrook NY responded “please come and watch our Lacrosse team play at home. That would be the best support we could ever ask for”. Well ladies, you’ve got two new fans and we promise to be there this spring at your opening home game. We’ll bring along some friends too. Thank you SUNY New Paltz Women’s Lacrosse team for being such a good and helpful neighbor! Good luck and stay healthy in your forthcoming 2010 Lacrosse season and may you rake in a lot of wins.”
The SUNY New Paltz Athletic Department would like to thank the FOC and the Town and Village of New Paltz for donating rakes and tarps to the student-athletes efforts of helping the community.
