New Paltz falls to Skidmore

NEW PALTZ- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team fell to the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore, by a score of 3-1, on Saturday afternoon on Alumni Field.

The Thoroughbreds struck first in the 17th minute with a goal by Doug Yeates, assisted by Ike Okpoebo.  Minutes later, Yeates’s cross from the left corner found Aaron Krepack on the six yard box for a goal for a 2-0 lead.

New Paltz outshot Skidmore 6-4 in the first half, but couldn’t find the back of the net, making it a score of 2-0 after the first half.

New Paltz came out strong in the second half and had several opportunities to score.  Right out of the gate Jimmy Altadonna (Massapequa) received a corner from Nick DiPaola (Huntington) but just missed wide left.

The second half became more physical.  Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill/St. Francis Prep) took some big hits, but was still able to create some options for the offense.

In the 64th minute, Brenden Kassel (Syosset) ripped a shot after breaking through the Skidmore defense, however missed wide left.

In the 82nd minute, Altadonna put New Paltz up on the board as he headed in his ninth goal of the season.

Peter Carmel (Lake Ronkonkoma/Stony Brook) made a great kick save in the 84th minute off of Doug Yeates’s shot, to keep New Paltz within two goals of Skidmore.

Skidmore goalkeeper Nick Peterson recorded the win in net for the Thoroughbreds, saving eight shots and allowing one goal.

Carmel receives the loss in net for the Hawks, allowing three goals on 13 shots with seven saves.
