Women’s Volleyball Comes Back against Maryville (MO)
ATLANTA, GA- The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team finished their play at the Emory Tournament with a 1-1 record on day two. The Hawks started the game against Maryville (MO) and fell behind 2-0 before storming back for the 3-2 victory. In the afternoon, the Hawks fell to defending national champions and currently ranked #1 in the nation Emory 3-0.
The Hawks fell behind 2-0 (25-19, 25-19) in the first two sets before winning the last three 25-21, 25-23, 16-14 for the victory. Senior Brittany Coyle (Middletown/Minisink Valley) led the Hawks with 16 kills and a .464 hitting percentage for the game and senior Alison Kiernan (New Hyde Park/Herricks) chipped in with 14 kills. Four players recorded double-figures in digs led by freshman Loren Crabbe (Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) with 24 and freshman Kelly Lavender (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) added 20. Senior setter Stephanie Bova (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) led the team with 31 assists and sophomore Kelsey Garmendia (Pine Bush) added 13 in the game.
In the Emory game, the Hawks fell 25-15, 25-5, 25-8 to the defending champions. Junior Stephanie Skrobach (Webster/Webster Schroeder) led the Hawks with three kills and senior Priska Wilson (Warwick) led with seven digs. Bova handed out eight assists to finish up the Emory Tournament.
The Hawks improve to 2-2 overall and return to the court Friday September 11th at 2 p.m. in the Nazareth Tournament.
