Women’s Tennis falls to Geneseo; Defeats Oswego at Night

SYRACUSE, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team split on the second day of SUNYAC play Saturday at the Drumlins Courts in Syracuse.  The Hawks fell to Geneseo in the afternoon by the score of 6-3, but rebounded for the 9-0 victory over Oswego at night.

In the Geneseo game, Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) and Ingrid Maryansky (Forest Hills) were able to pick up the single wins in the second and fifth singles.  The team of Stephanie Schara (Huntington/Kellenberg Memorial) and Lindsey Garyn (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) won the first doubles match for the Hawks.

2nd singles: Montana Wilson (NP) def. Melissa Baker (G) 6-2, 7-6 (7-2)

3rd singles: Julia Passik (G) def. Lindsey Garyn (NP) 6-2, 6-2

4th singles: Anna Lehet (G) def. Lyndsey Lovinger (NP) 6-2, 6-1

5th singles: Ingrid Maryansky (NP) def. Kaite Gayvert (G) 6-4, 6-4

6th singles: Sarah Shields (G) def. Alexandria Esposito (NP) 6-1, 6-1

Doubles:

1st doubles: Schara/Garyn (NP) def. Vieth/Passik (G) 8-6

2nd doubles: Lauren Johnson/Baker def. Wilson/Kayla DiPaulo (NP) 8-4

3rd doubles: Gayvert/Shields def Lovinger/Kerri Serkes (NP) 8-5

In the nightcap against Oswego, the Hawks rebounded for the sweep of the Lakers.

The Hawks improve to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC.  The Hawks finish up the weekend SUNYAC play at 9 a.m. against Fredonia at Drumlins in Syracuse.
