Women’s Soccer Opens Season Tuesday At Ramapo
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team was picked sixth in the pre-season SUNYAC poll, which is the highest the program has been ranked under head coach Colleen Bruley.
Junior forward Rebecca Devlin (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) returns as the leading scorer on this year’s team. Devlin netted three goals and had four assists for ten points and was fourth on the team in shots. Junior midfielder Emily Buckner (Pine Bush) is coming off a two goal and four assist season and will help generate scoring opportunities for the Hawks.
The defense will be anchored by juniors Vanessa Rogers (Minisink Valley) and Brittany Bennett (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and sophomore Shannon Cobb (Poughkeepsie/Arlington). The Hawks were tied for fourth in the conference in goals allowed last year with 19 and fourth with eight shut outs.
The Hawks open the season September 1st at Ramapo. The remaining road schedule consists of King’s College and University of Rochester in the U of R Tournament, Salem State and the winner of Wellesley/Simmons game in the Wellesley Tournament, Manhattanville, Brockport, Geneseo, Potsdam, Plattsburgh and Drew.
The home opener for the Hawks is September 9th against cross town rival Vassar. The remaining Hawks home schedule consists of Oneonta, Buffalo State, Fredonia, Oswego, Cortland and Bard.
