Cross Country Runs Strong at Mt. St. Mary

NEWBURGH, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross country team had a solid team effort Tuesday evening at the Mt. St. Mary College dual meet.   

On the men’s side, Joe Gentsch (Staten Island/Curtis) took the top spot with a time of 16:17 in the 5K race.  Rob Grazier (West Islip) and Jeff Raab (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) finished second and third respectively with times of 17:02 and 17:03.  Shawn Gannon (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) finished fourth with a time of 17:04.

Danielle Harmon (Pearl River) and Nikki McCarthy (Wallkill) finished in a tie for first with a time of 20:02 in the 5K race.  With their time of 20:02, Harmon and McCarthy set a record for sixth all-time in school history.  Lisa Cassaro (West Islip), Sara Wenger (New York/The Beacon School) and Nichole Wischoff (Cooperstown) finished in a tie for third with a 20:58 time.

The men’s and women’s cross country team will run Saturday at the Vassar Invite.  The men start at 11 am and the women start at 12 pm.
