Red Dragons Snap Hawks Streak
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team fell to the visiting Red Dragons from Oneonta, Saturday afternoon 1-0 on Alumni Field.
The Red Dragons had the first opportunity in the second minute when Allison Swiatowicz cross found Kayla Brantmeyer for the header, but was saved by the diving Stephanie Vega.
New Paltz in the 11th minute had chance to take the lead when Samantha Abravanel (Islip) found Sarah Demarzo (Mahopac) at the top of the box for the shot, but was right into the arms of the Red Dragons goalkeeper.
In the 27th minute, Elizabeth Cherry sent a through ball between two Hawk defenders in the middle of the field to Kayla Brantmeyer. Brantmeyer struck at shot right off the hands off Vega for the goal and the eventual game winner.
Oneonta outshot the Hawks 12-7 and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
Jamie Chyat recorded the win in net, saving one shot. The Red Dragons improve to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in SUNYAC play.
Stephanie Vega (Oceanside/Baldwin) recorded the loss in net, saving five shots on the afternoon. The Hawks fall to 3-2-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks return to action on Friday against Buffalo State on Alumni Field at 4:00 p.m.
