Hawks Open with Two Straight Victories in Tournament

NEW PALTZ, NY– The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team opened the SUNY New Paltz Hawks Invitational with two victories over NJCU and John Hopkins.

The Hawks defeated NJCU 3-0 by the scores of 25-7, 25-8, 25-9.  Stephanie Skrobach led the Hawks with seven kills and added five digs.  Maddy Gergen added six kills as the Hawks improve to 6-4 overall.  Kelsey Garmendia led the Hawks with 23 assists on the evening.  Michelle Jacobson led with 11 digs and Kelcey Noble added seven digs as the Hawks dominated the Gothic Knights.

NJCU was led by Tabitha Jordan with seven kills and 12 digs and Alex Johanesen handed out 11 assists on the evening.  The Gothic Knights fall to 3-4 overall.

In the John Hopkins game, the Hawks defeated the Blue Jays 3-1 by the scores of 25-15, 24-26, 25-18, 28-26.  Brittany Coyle led the Hawks with 14 kills and three solo blocks.  Dana Kindelman added 11 kills and Stephanie Skrobach chipped in with ten.  Stephanie Bova handed out 37 assists and Melinda DiGiovanna had 15 digs as the Hawks improve to 7-4 overall.

The Blue Jays were led Allison Cappalaere with 18 kills and Sara Feicht and Alex Zenoff each added 12 kills a piece.  Becky Paynter handed out 37 assists and Rhea Alexander and KC Stingl each had 11 digs a piece.

The Hawks return to the court tomorrow against Rutgers-Newark at 10 am and Johnson & Wales at 2 pm.
