Hawks Dominate Cedar Crest
ALLENTOWN, PA- The visiting Hawks dominated Cedar Crest in the first ever game between the two schools, winning 4-1 over the Falcons. Head coach Shanna Vitale said “The girls showed great poise throughout the game against a very physical team. The defense moved the ball well from deep in the zone to the midfielders, who distributed the ball to the forwards up the field to start the attack.”
The Falcons opened the game with the first goal and the Hawks responded by scoring three goals to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
Kristen Bergmann scored the first goal to tie the game off a pass from Alyssa Finck. Bergmann would assist on the game winning goal, finding Sarah Schloss for her sixth goal of the season. Stacey Miller gave the Hawks the 3-1 advantage off a pass from Caitlin Ryder.
“We dominated possession the entire game” stated Vitale. The Hawks outshot the Falcons 14-3 in the first half and 24-6 for the game. The Hawks also held an 11-4 advantage in corners in the first half and 19-7 for the game.
Bergmann would tally her tenth goal of the season off a pass from Schloss in the second half.
Elizabeth Dini recorded the win in net, saving three shots on the evening. The Hawks improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz returns to the field on Tuesday against Kean on the Turf Field at 4:30 pm on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
