WBCA Recognizes Women’s Basketball

NEW PALTZ, NY- The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the nation’s top 25 academic list for all of Division III women basketball teams.  The Hawks finished 19th in the nation in grade point average.  The Hawks were the only SUNYAC member among the top 25 with a 3.414 GPA.

The Hawks had seven student-athletes named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and two to the Commissioner’s List.  Freshman Kaitlin Clifford, freshman Zoe Cohen, freshman Samantha DelGaudio, junior, Abbey DeRossi, junior Maggie Farrell, freshman Kathleen Folkl and freshman Caitlin Irwin earned SUNYAC All-Academic Team.  In addition, juniors Abbey DeRossi and Maggie Farrell earned Commissioner’s List.

Zoe Cohen, Caitlin Irwin and Kathleen Folkl each earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Spring of 2009. 

“We are extremely proud to have been recognized by the WBCA for our team’s academic accomplishments.  Success in the classroom is always our number one priority, and making the WBCA Academic Top 25 was one of our team’s goals this year.  I am very proud of our players for their accomplishments and for their efforts in continually striving to be the best they can be in the classroom.  Now, we will look to take the next step and finish number one next year!” said head coach Jamie Seward.
