2009-2010 HR Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship Recipient Announced
The Mid-Hudson Human Resources Association (MHHRA) and the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz are pleased to announce that Alexandra Curiale has been selected as the recipient of the 2009-2010 HR Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship. This $750 scholarship was established in 2006 by MHHRA to recognize and encourage SUNY New Paltz students who are interested in pursuing a career in the profession of human resource (HR) management. Preference is given to applicants who are active student members of the Management Association (MA), the SUNY New Paltz student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
“MHHRA is pleased to be associated with the SUNY New Paltz Management Association and is proud of the student chapter’s educational activities,” said Shaun Hoff, MHHRA Student Chapter Liaison for SUNY New Paltz. “Developing a named student scholarship is a noteworthy way for MHHRA to positively impact the lives of students and recognize the academic accomplishments of a student scholar. Alexandra is an outstanding example of a high quality student who should have a bright future in the field of human resources.”
“MHHRA is very pleased to be able to offer the HR of Tomorrow Scholarship again this year,” said Nancy Couse, MHHRA President. “Even in this economic climate it is important that we help students reach their academic goals.”
Ms. Curiale is an undergraduate School of Business student majoring in Management. She has been an active executive board member of the Management Association (MA) and a national student chapter member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Her leadership roles with the MA have included serving as the MA’s Vice-President and Community Service Chair. Some activities she has spearheaded include organizing a student chapter company visit to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, organizing an on-campus blood drive with the American Red Cross, and organizing walk teams to benefit the American Cancer Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She was elected to serve as the MA’s President for the upcoming 2009-2010 year as well. Her career goal is to pursue a human resource management position in the healthcare field. She also aspires to attain her Masters degree at SUNY New Paltz.
“The HR Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship has helped to lessen the impact of rising college costs for me. Scholarships lend students a helping hand toward reaching their goals and this scholarship was no exception,” said Curiale. “I appreciate having been considered for such a scholarship but I am thankful for having been selected to receive it.”
“The scholarship provided by MHHRA helps students pursue the education and training necessary for a successful career in human resources,” said Kristin Backhaus, MA Student Chapter Advisor and Associate Professor of Management at SUNY New Paltz. “We are so grateful to MHHRA for their continued support of the School of Business and our students.”
