Junior point guard Nicole Sarcone (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) was named the 2008-09 most valuable player as she helped the women’s basketball team to a 17-8 record as she started all 25 games. She finished the season with 5.8 points per game and a team high 143 assists and 58 steals. Her 143 assists this season stands fourth all-time in a season moves her into second all-time on the career assist chart with 342. She needs 15 assists to break the all-time record of 357. Sarcone finished the season 14th in the nation with 5.7 assists per game and was 29th in assist/turnover ratio with 1.83.
