Hawks Shut Out Alums 5-0

On Saturday, April 25th, the Hawks Men’s soccer team hosted their annual alumni game to conclude their spring season. The Hawks were out to show the alumni and attending fans how much they have improved throughout the spring while alumni from several decades came back to show off the skills they maintained since they graduated from SUNY New Paltz.

The game started off with the Hawks on the attack and the first goal came from sophomore Joe Rose who received a through ball from sophomore Frank Tloczkowski, and put a nice move on alumni goalkeeper Pat Carlucci and slotted the ball into the open net. With the score at 1-0, the Hawks continued to attack and found the net again as freshman James McGaley tapped a cross into the back of the net. The Hawks didn’t let up from there and with time winding down in the first half, freshman James Altadonna received a pass, turned and beat the last defender and placed the ball near post to beat Carlucci. After a hard fought and intense 45 minutes, the first half ended with the Hawks up 3-0.

The second half brought more opportunities from both sides as each team continued to attack at will. The alumni saw a few good opportunities from Joe Fabian but he was denied by Hawk’s goalkeeper Peter Carmel. Alumni forwards Mario Lavacca and Bobby Monahan also took their shot at beating Carmel but ended up with the same result. In the end, it was the Hawks who were able to find the goal in the second half. The first to add on to the tally was Tloczkowski who received a beautiful diagonal ball from freshman Brendan Ujvary; he settled the ball down and sent a laser far post into the back of the net. With the score at 4-0 and the opportunities mounting, McGaley was able to tack on his second goal of the day as he sent home a corner from freshman Evan Martel with a nice header. The Alumni did put on some pressure late in the game and came very close to putting a few in the net, but in the end, the game ended 5-0 with the Hawk’s on top. Carmel earned the shutout win for the Hawk’s making a few spectacular saves in the process.

The Hawk’s soccer team as well as the athletic department would like to thank all of the alumni who turned out for the event. The level of play was excellent on both sides and the game was exciting and fun to watch. We look forward to seeing all of the alumni at next year’s event.
