The New Paltz cross country team competed in the Matthew Vassar Open on May 1st hosted by Vassar College.
Junior Lisa Cassaro placed third in a field of 16 runners in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:07 for a new personal best. Olga Stulov also posted a personal best with a sixth place finish in 5:10. Alex Berenis and Kristina Rolla competed in the 800 meter run and crossed in 2:34 and 2:37, respectively. Sophomore Danielle Harmon ran a 20:03.53 in the 5000 meters.
Sophomore Joe Gentsch provided the best finish of the day as he defeated his 1500 meter title from a year ago. He posted a 4:07.02, one second faster than a year ago, and edged out the second place runner from Williams TC with a time of 4:07.59. Dan Caruso ran a 2:06.05 in the 800 meters and finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.62m. Dexter Larson lowered his personal best in the 5000 meters with a time of 16.47.30.
