Vassar bolts past Hawks in second half
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s lacrosse team fell to visiting Vassar College, 15-5, Wednesday evening on the Turf Field. Nine different players score for the Brewers in the victory.
Sarah Warner led the Brewers with three goals and had three groundballs. Jessica Albert, Jennie McAllister, Emily Kloppenburg and Christine Eaccarin all netted two goals apiece for the Brewers.
The Hawks were led by Sam DelGaudio and Kim Hall with two goals apiece and Krista Hannaford scored her first collegiate goal.
Christine Eaccarino put Vassar on the board first just 1:26 into the game. The Hawks would even the score a minute later when Sam DelGaudio netted her 25th goal of the year. Vassar would score five straight goals by Elizabeth Feltch, Maura McCarthy, Eaccarino added her second of the game and Jennie McAllister scored twice in just over five minutes of play for the 6-1 lead with 14:47 remaining.
The Hawks would cut into the lead as Krista Hannaford netted her first of the career and DelGaudio netted her second of the game to pull the Hawks with three at 6-3. Kim Hall would score her 14th of the year with four seconds remaining in the half to cut the lead to 6-4.
In the second half, Vassar bolted out and scored nine straight goals. The Sarah Warner scored just 1:11 into the half and Jessica Albert scored a minute later for Vassar on a free-position shot. Sarah Warner would score two straight just 1:45 apart for a 10-4 lead with 22:58 remaining.
The Brewers Moe Byrne, Morgan Namian, Jessica Albert all scored one goal and Emily Kloppenburg score twice to push the lead to 15-4 with 14:45 remaining. The Hawk Kim Hall would score with 4:07 remaining to complete the score at 15-5.
Nicole Englehardt earned the win in net for the Brewers allowing five goals and saving four shots. Vassar improves to 9-6 overall.
Lorraine Vultaggio recorded the loss in net allowing 15 goals and saving 12. New Paltz falls to 2-11 overall and returns to the field Saturday at 1 p.m. for senior day against Fredonia on the Turf Field.
