Union sweeps doubleheader from Hawks

The SUNY New Paltz softball team finished the season today against Union and fell to the Dutchwomen 6-2 in game one and 5-1 (9 innings) in game two.

In game one, Devon Kelly was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Erin Fitzpatrick was 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI for the Hawks.  The Hawks took the lead 2-1 in the fourth with an RBI double for Fitzpatrick and an RBI single by Kelly.  Union would grab the lead back scoring four runs in the sixth and would add one in the seventh for the 6-2 win.

Devon Kelly recorded the loss on the mound alloing six runs, five earned, on 11 hits and striking out four batters.

In the nightcap, Courtney Costello allowed a total of three hits in the first seven innings before surrendering three hits and five runs in the last two innings for the loss on the mound.

Melyssa Cilmi, Justine Scutaro, Dale Cornelius, Cassie Barcavage and Victoria Curcio each had one hit apiece for the Hawks.  The Hawks scored in the eighth to tie it at 1-1, when Dale Cornelius sacrificed Tori Kyle to third.  Tori Kyle would score on the next pitch as Cassie Barcavage doubled to deep center to tie the game.  Union would score four in the ninth inning to sweep the Hawks on the day.  New Paltz finishes the season at 19-19 overall and 9-11 in the SUNYAC.
