Hawks fall to Fredonia on Senior Day

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s lacrosse team fell to Fredonia, 16-5 Saturday afternoon on the Turf Field.  Lorraine Vultaggio, Jillian Carfarchio and Sara Palazzolo played their last home game for the Hawks. 

Morgan McNamara and Amy Simon each netted five goals apiece to lead the Blue Devils in the conference victory.  Katie Monaghan and Karli Brinthaupt each added two goals apiece and Laura Culhane had one goal and two assists.

Sophomore Brittany Bennett (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) led the Hawks with three goals on the day and freshman Sam DelGaudio (Northport, NY/Northport) netted one goal and had one assist.  Freshman Bridger Grover (Rockville Centre, NY/Holy Trinity) had one goal, three groundballs and three caused turnovers for the Hawks.

Karli Brinthaupt opened the scoring for the Blue Devils 1:45 into the game and Katie Monaghan gave Fredonia a 2-0 advantage just a minute later.  Brittany Bennett cut the lead in half with a free-position goal 24 seconds later.

Sara Ceraso put the Blue Devils back up by two with a free-position goal at 25:44.  Amy Simon netted her first of the game 30 seconds later and McNamara netted her first two minutes later.  Fredonia led 5-1 with 23:04 remaining in the half.  Simon and Laura Culhane score and McNamara netted two goals to take a 9-1 lead over the Hawks with 3:57 remaining in the half.

Brittany Bennett score her second of the game of a pass from Sam DelGaudio.  Fredonia’s Katie Monaghan would score with 29 seconds left in the half to give the Blue Devils a 10-2 advantage.

In the second half, Brittany Bennett netted her third of the game and 31st of the season four minutes into the half.  Fredonia would rattled off five straight goals to take a 15-3 lead.  Bridget Grover scored her fifth goal of the year with 10:40 remaining.  Fredonia Simon netted the last goal for the Blue Devils with 8:44 remaining to take a 16-4 lead.  Sam DelGaudio scored her 27th of the season; 20 seconds later end the scoring for both teams.

Nicole Faulise recorded the win in net allowing five goals and saving ten shots.  Fredonia improves to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the SUNYAC.

Lorraine Vultaggio (Babylon, NY/Miller Place) recorded the loss in net allowing 16 goals and saving five.  New Paltz falls to 2-12 overall and 0-8 in the SUNYAC.  The Hawks will conclude the season Tuesday April 28th against Oneonta at 4 p.m. on the campus of SUNY Oneonta.
