Four New Paltz students recognized for excellence with Chancellor’s Awards
NEW PALTZ – Four students from the State University of New York at New Paltz received the 2009 Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence at a ceremony held on April 7 in Albany.
The outstanding New Paltz students honored were Allison Duarte, a journalism student from New Windsor, N.Y.; Jessica Golian, a childhood education with a concentration in Spanish student from Roslyn Heights N.Y.; Bexis Matos, a journalism and public relations student from Bronx, N.Y.; and Benjamin Olsen, a business economics student from Patterson, N.Y.
State University of New York Vice Chancellor and Officer-In-Charge John J. O’Connor presented each student with a framed certificate and a medallion, which is traditionally worn at commencement.
The New Paltz students were among 238 college students throughout the SUNY system presented with the annual award. Students must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.77 or higher and record a significant contribution to their campus or local community to be considered for the honor.
