Bottom of sixth rally propels Hawks to victory in nightcap and splits with Wisconsin-Stout

PHOENIX, AZ- The SUNY New Paltz baseball team late rally earns the Hawks their second victory of the season.  The Hawks split with Wisconsin-Stout, falling in game one 16-4 and winning game two 4-3.

In the nightcap, the Hawks fell behind 3-0, but in the bottom half of the sixth inning the Hawks scored four runs to take the lead.  With one out, senior Tyler Terlecky (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double to get into scoring position.  Senior Devin Scalabrini (Peekskill, NY/Mahopac) walked and sophomore Mike Rich (Elmira, NY/Elmira) singled to bring home Terlecky and cut the lead to 3-1.  Junior Clinton Boettcher (Hyde Park, NY/FDR) then doubled home Scalabrini and Wisconsin-Stout’s lead was 3-2.  Sophomore Michael Marash (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) gave the Hawks the lead 4-3 with a two run double scoring Rich and Boettcher

Freshman starting pitcher Pat Sylvester (Stuyvesant, NY/Garden City) allowed three runs (2 ER) on seven hits in six plus innings to earn his first collegiate victory.  Junior Tristan Greene (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) came in to face the final two batters to get the save and end Wisconsin-Stout’s threat with the bases loaded.

In the first game, Wisconsin-Stout put eight runs up in the bottom of the third and seven in the bottom of the fourth on eight Hawk errors.  The Hawks cut the lead into half scoring four in the top of the fourth.  Terlecky was 2-for-3 from the plate and Scalabrini was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.  Freshman Chris Paulicelli (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) was 1-for-3 and two RBI’s. 

Boettcher started the game for the Hawks allowing eight runs (1 ER) on six hits and two strikeouts in three innings.  The final three innings three Hawk pitchers combined for eight runs (4 ER) on four hits and striking out one.  With the two game split, the Hawks are now 2-6 on the season and return to the field tomorrow against Concordia (MN) for a two game set.
