#24 Ithaca too much for the Hawks
ITHACA, NY- The SUNY New Paltz baseball traveled to Ithaca Wednesday evening to take on nationally ranked (24) Ithaca College Bombers. The Bombers used a seven run third inning to take the victory 12-1 in the non-conference game.
In the bottom of the third inning the Bombers put seven runs on seven hits and costly error by the Hawks allowed the Bombers to get runners in scoring position and score. The Bombers would extend their lead to 10-0 with three in the bottom of the fourth and would tack on two more in the bottom half of the sixth for the 12-0 advantage. The Hawks would score their lone run in the top of the ninth on a bases loaded walk by freshman outfielder Philip Parker (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian).
Matt Streich led the Bombers at the plate going 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI’s. PJ Niedzwiecki and Matt Samela each had two hits apiece at the plate for the Bombers.
Senior infielder Tyler Terlecky (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) was 1-for-3 from the plate and has hit safely in 12 of 13 games and has a four game hitting streak. Freshman infielder Paul Merola (Cornwall on Hudson, NY/Cornwall) was 2-for-5 from the plate.
The Bombers Dan Lynch recorded the win on the mound in relieve pitching two innings and striking out four and not allowing a hit. Starter Tom Fishback went three innings allowing two hits and striking out two. Ithaca improves to 9-3 overall.
Senior pitcher Jonathan Shanks (Millbrook, NY/Millbrook) started the game and pitched one inning allowing no hits and striking out two. Sophomore Brett Harrison (Merrick, NY/Bellmore JFK) recorded the loss on the mound allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out two in two innings of work.
The Hawks fall to 2-11 overall and return to the field this weekend against SUNYAC opponents Brockport on Saturday and Fredonia on Sunday, each game starts at 12 p.m.
