New Paltz National rankings

NEW PALTZ, NY-  The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team is being recognized in the national rankings for individual and team statistics.  The lastest D3hoops pool for the week of February 8 have been released.

The Hawks rank 71st in scoring offense and 70th in scoring margin.  Sophomore forward Artie Williams leads the team with 14.3 pointer per game.  The Hawks rank 63rd in three-point field goals per game and freshman guard Caitlin Irwin leds the attack with 37 on the season which is good for 2.2 per game.  Junior point guard Nicole Sarcone ranks 20th in the nation in assists per game with 5.6 and 41st in assist/turnover ratio with 1.72.  The team ranks 63rd overall in assists per game with 15.2 a game.

Since the arrival of head coach Jamie Seward the Hawks have been known for defense.  The pressure defense causes 27.6 tunrovers this season and they rank 13th in nation with a 6.28 turnover margin and 20th in steals per game with 13.2.  They hold opponents to a 36.5 shooting percentage which ranks 60th in the nation and 48th in three-point field goal defense at 26.6 percent. 

The Hawks play at Oswego Friday night and Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon.
