New Paltz enters “Pink Zone”
SUNY New Paltz athletes, students and fans will be decked out in pink during the women’s basketball game against SUNY Potsdam tonight Feb. 20 at 6 p.m..
The women’s basketball team will host the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) annual “Pink Zone,” an initiative movement to raise awareness for breast cancer.
All fans are asked to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and on behalf of the Kay Yow/WBCA Breast Cancer Fund, which donations and proceeds benefit.
Formerly known as “Think Pink,” “Pink Zone” was created in response to late Kay Yow, a past president and founder of WBCA, who established the fund in her name. She was the head women’s coach of North Carolina State and had battled 3 bouts with breast cancer. Yow passed away in late January.
This year over 1,250 schools and organizations are participating in the event. This marks SUNY New Paltz’s 2nd year. The women’s team will be selling pink ribbons to be hung in the Student Union Building.
