Agyemang Becomes All-Time Season Assist Leader; Hawks End Season with 57-54 Loss to Plattsburgh

Junior Oppong Agyemang (Windsor, CT/Windsor) finished with a career high 11 points and dished out a game-high 10 assists in the 57-54 loss to Plattsburgh on Saturday. Agyemang becomes the all-time leader for assists in a season with 160, passing Eric Bell who had 152 in the 94-95 season.

The Hawks trailed 57-54 with 12 seconds left when Agyemang attempted a three pointer to tie the game that went around the rim and out. The Hawks then forced a Plattsburgh turnover. Harris Wichard (Merrick/Bellmore JFK) drove the lane and missed the layup, forcing the Hawks to send to the Cardinals to the line. Plattsburgh missed both attempts and Connor Cornine (Warwick/Don Bosco Prep) grabbed the rebound but Agyemang long attempt hit off the backboard to give the Cardinals the win.

Wichard netted 16 points on 7-of-16 from the field and grabbed six boards. Cornine posted nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Junior forward Lee Bertram (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

New Paltz took an early 12-4 lead and continued to maintain the momentum entering halftime with a 31-18 advantage. The Hawks led by double-digits up until 9:59 left on the clock when Ryan Sawyer (Peekskill/Croton Harmon) drained a trey for the 49-39 score. The Cardinals then went on a 13-2 run over the next 6:34 to take the lead 52-51. Agyemang then went 3-of-4 from the charity stripe for the 54-52 lead before Plattsburgh completed the scoring to force the Hawks final three point attempts that fell just short.

New Paltz ends their season 7-18 overall and 4-12 in conference play.
