Rieth Leads Hawks to 2nd Place at RPI Invitational

The SUNY New Paltz women’s swim team finished second out of six teams at the RPI Invitational on Saturday with 488 points, to finished behind first place Cortland (563 points).
Sophomore Christine Rieth was the only competitor to win two individual events on the day. She captured the 200 free in a time of 2:00.15 and won the 100-free in a time of 54.74. Rieth also helped the 400-medley relay team to a victory in a time of 4:08.29. Joining Rieth in the relay was Samantha Graham, Joelle Hopf, and Erica Ellis. The Hawks claimed two other individual events and the 400-free relay. Hopf won the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.76, almost two full seconds ahead of second place, and sophomore Marissa Morris won the 500 free in 5:24.36. Morris teamed up with Graham, Allison Wells and Jessica Lester to win the 400 free relay in 3:45.16.
Other finishes on the day included a second place finish for Lester in the 200 back (2:19.54) and Graham took third in the event (2:19.70). Wells posted a second place finish in the 100 free (56.22), Melinda Pullen touched second in the 1000 free (11:12.76), and Ellis took fourth in the 200 fly (2:22.11). Morris finished sixth in the 50 free (26.26) and Tiffany Sorrell was sixth in the 200 IM (2:22.04).
New Paltz will return to the pool on Saturday January 31st for their final home meet of the season when they host Cortland at 1pm.
