Hawks Down Knights 92-65; Four Players in Double Digits
The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team hosted Geneseo Saturday night and handed the Knights their third loss of the season with a 92-65 decision. The Hawks improve to 7-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play, while Geneseo falls to 8-3 and 3-2.
The Hawks took an early 15-2 lead on their way to a 42-24 halftime score and never looked back, holding Geneseo to their second lowest halftime score of the season. Harris Wichard led four Hawk players in double figures as he tied his career high of 16 points, including going 4-8 from the arc. First year Shereef Taylor finished with 16 points, six boards, three assists and three steals. Junior Lee Bertram made 6-7 from the floor on his way to 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Shalik Jenkins came off the bench to tie his career-high 12 points. Junior Oppong Agyemang dished out a game-high ten assists to spark the Hawks offense as they shot 53.8% on the night.
The Knights were led by Scott Morton who scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the first half and added six rebounds and four blocks. Jeff Howe added 10 points and Ethan Estabrooks and James Braunscheidel came off the bench in the second half to score nine points and eight points, respectively.
New Paltz returns to action on Friday January 16th when they travel to Potsdam for a 8pm tipoff.
