Men’s Basketball Soars Past Morrisville 100-53

Shalik Jenkins (Brooklyn/Boys and Girls) hit a three pointer at the buzzer to finalize the 100-53 victory over visiting Morrisville State on Friday night. The Hawks improve to 6-6 on the season and 3-1 in the SUNYAC, while Morrisville falls to 0-9.

New Paltz jumped out to an early 17-5 lead and never looked back. The Hawks then went on a 21-6 run over the next seven minutes, en route to a 54-17 intermission. In the second half, New Paltz led 67-24 before Morrisville went on a 18-6 over six and half minutes to cut the lead to 73-42 but that is as close as the Mustangs would come. The Hawks shot 54.1% and dominated the boards 51-34 while forcing 23 turnovers.

First year Jayquan Anderson (Bronx/FDA) led the Hawks with a career and game-high 22 points and hauled down 10 boards. Junior Lee Bertram (Bayport/Bayport Blue-Point) finished with a double-double 15 points and tied his career high of 12 rebounds while dishing out a career high five assists. Harris Wichard (Merrick/Bellmore JFK) chipped in with 13 points, first year Craig Hauser (East Williston/Chaminade) added a career high nine points and Oppong Agyemang (Windsor, CT/Windsor) handed out a game high eight assists.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday when they host conference opponent Geneseo (8-2, 3-1) at 8:00 pm.
