Watson named goalkeeper coach for second straight year

NEW PALTZ, NY- New Paltz men’s soccer coach Eric Watson has been named goalkeeper coach for the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team in 2009 for the second straight year.

In Watson’s first year as goalkeeper coach, the United States won the Nordic Cup and did not allow any goals in four international games. The United States defeated Switzerland, 1-0 in the opening game. The next two games the U.S. defeated England, 3-0 and Norway, 2-0.

The Nordic Cup Championship came down to Germany and the United States. The United States defeated Germany, 3-0 to win the 2008 Nordic Cup Championship in Borlange, Sweden.

In 2009, the site for the Nordic Cup Championship has not been released, but will be played at the end of July.

The U.S. U-23 National Team begins training in January in San Diego, California before traveling to Spain in February for more training sessions and several international friendly games.
