Swimming Begins Competition at ECACs

The SUNY New Paltz swimming teams began competition at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on Friday. After the first day the women stood in fourth place with 75 points and men were in fifth place with 58 points.

The women’s 200 yard medley relay of Tiffany Sorrell, Becky Baker, Erica Ellis and Christine Rieth finished third with a time of 1:52.77. The Hawks finished behind Geneseo (1:52.12) and Stevens Institute (1:52.55). Sophomore Jessica Lester took third in the 1650 with a time of 18:10.84, Melinda Pullen finished sixth (18:34.77) and Christine Corrigan touched 10th (18:54.33).

Stephen Cozzolongo, Rob Webb, Dave Gardner and Billy Papetti teamed up for a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The quartet finished in1:36.99, almost knocking four full second off their seed time. New Paltz finished behind Staten Island (1:35.39) and Stevens Institute (1:36.73). First year Pete Nastasti took fifth in the 1650 freestyle (16:40.51) and Marc Battisti touched eighth (17:03.00).
