Women’s Volleyball Advances to SUNYAC Title Game
The SUNY New Paltz women’s volleyball team advanced to the SUNYAC title game with a 3-0 semifinal victory over Brockport on Friday night. The Hawks (29-8) will meet the winner of Friday’s other semifinal, Fredonia (26-9), in the tournament championship game at 2pm on Saturday. The winner earns an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
New Paltz defeated Brockport 25-20, 25-10, 25-16 as first year Melinda DiGiovanna (West Hempstead) paced the attack with 10 kills and junior Brittany Coyle (Middletown/Minisink Valley) added nine kills. Junior Stephanie Bova (Central Square) dished out 29 assists and senior Nicole Mercadante (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) had 19 digs for the Hawks.
The Hawks defeated Fredonia last Saturday at the Vassar tournament, 3-0, while the Blue Devils defeated New Paltz in the 2007 SUNYAC semifinal.
