Women’s Volleyball Picks Up Two Conference Wins
The women’s volleyball team picked up two conference wins in the first day of the second round of SUNYAC Pool Play. The Hawks defeated Plattsburgh 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-21) in their first match. Junior Brittany Colye paced the attack with nine kills and five blocks. Stephanie Bova handed out 31 assists and Nicole Mercadante registered 16 digs. With her 16 digs, Mercadante moved to second on the all-time career dig chart with 1418, passing Andrea Kaiser (1412 digs).
In the second match, New Paltz came back from a two game deficit to defeat Potsdam 3-2 (14-25, 21-25, 25-9, 25-18, 15-5). First year Melinda DiGiovanna totaled a season high 15 kills with 26 digs. Bova dished out 47 assists and Dana Kindelmann tallied five blocks.
The Hawks improve to 20-5 on the season and remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0. New Paltz will return to action on Saturday against Oneonta at 10a.m. and Cortland at 2p.m.
