Women’s Soccer Falls 3-1 to Oneonta

The women’s soccer team traveled to Oneonta this afternoon and fell to the Red Dragons 3-1. New Paltz falls to 8-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the SUNYAC, while the Red Dragons improve to 11-5-1 and 8-1 in conference play.

Senior Lindsey Brechbiel got the day started with a goal in the 34th minute to give Oneonta State the lead. Brechbiel’s goal came after New Paltz goalie Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville/Washingtonville) made a save on a shot by Clinton that deflected back into play allowing Brechbiel to gather it inside the box and put it into the goal.

Meredith Clinton made it 2-0 six minutes later when she sent a cross into the center from the right side of the net that managed to find its way into the left side of the net and put Oneonta up by two at the half.

The Red Dragons wasted no time in the second half as junior Lauren McGee scored 1:06 into the half. Oneonta had a pair of shots blocked and saved before Mc­Gee gathered a ball that deflected off of Boccard and put it into the goal to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 lead.

New Paltz denied the Red Dragons of the shutout in the final minute of the game as the Hawks managed to get the ball into the box to junior Rebecca Kafko (Brooklyn/Midwood) was open on the left side and fired a shot past Oneonta freshman goalie Amy Lusby.

Oneonta State finished the game with a 25-2 advantage in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corners. Boccard made eight saves in goal for New Paltz in the loss.

The Hawkks will return to action on Saturday when they host Oswego at 1pm.
