Todoric Nets Game Winner in 2OT
Sophomore Tanja Todoric (Spring Valley) headed the game winning goal into the upper left corner of the net 29 seconds into the second overtime as the Hawks defeated Drew 1-0 and earned their tenth win of the season. First year Elana Jaroff (Old Westbury/The Wheatley School) crossed the ball from the left side of the box for the assist.
New Paltz had several scoring chances in the first half, sparked by sophomore Rebecca Devlin (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) who fired a shot from the top of the box at 9:50, which Drew goalkeeper Ann Mularz punched over the crossbar. Jennifer Moretti (Sayville) took the corner for New Paltz and found Emily Buckner (Pine Bush) who headed the ball, but was stopped by Mularz. With just under eight minutes left in the first half, Devlin took a shot that sailed just over the cross bar.
In the second half, New Paltz’s Kate Addiss (Amherst) flicked the ball off her right heel to Jaroff who went on a breakaway from half field, but was stripped of the ball by Drew’s defense before she was able to register a shot.
Drew’s best scoring opportunity of the day came in the second half when Megan Fogarty crossed the ball from the right side to find Alyssa Goodman who headed the ball inches wide to the left of the post.
New Paltz out shot Drew 19-9 and held a 5-0 advantage on corners. Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) posted four saves in net to earn her seventh shutout of the season.
The Hawks improve to 10-7-1 and will return to action on Tuesday November 4th when they travel to Geneseo for the first round of SUNYAC playoffs. New Paltz has earned the fifth seed while Geneseo is the fourth seed. The two teams battled to a 0-0 (2OT) decision in the regular season.
