New Paltz women’s soccer concludes conference schedule with win
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team concluded their SUNYAC Conference schedule with a 6-0 victory over Oswego on Saturday afternoon. The game was also the last home game for the five seniors, Sarah Boccard, Rachel Vanni, Jennifer Anselmi, Stephanie Wallman and Katie Addiss.
The Hawks pressure was too much for the Lakers to handle as the Hawks out shot the Lakers 17-6 in the contest.
The Hawks scored first in the 16th minute when Rebecca Devlin (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) passed to senior Kate Addiss (Amherst, NY/ Amherst) on the corner of the 18 yard box to beat the goalie for the 1-0 lead.
In the 23rd minute, Devlin tallied her second assist when she crossed the ball to Emily Buckner (Pine Bush, NY/ Pine Bush) for the shot that beat the keeper left corner and the 2-0 advantage.
Six minutes later, Addiss crossed the ball to Elana Jaroff (Old Westbury, NY/The Wheatley School) who one touched the ball past the goalie. The Hawks led 3-0 at the half.
The Hawks struck again in the 53rd minute, when senior Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland, NY/ North Rockland) found Devlin for the goal. Devlin finished the game with a goal and two assists.
Three minutes later, Anselmi caused a Lakers turnover at the top of the box and ripped a shot past the goalkeeper for the 5-0 led. Anselmi finish the game with a goal and an assist.
The Hawks final goal was scored in the 88th minute, when Addiss touched to Jaroff on the left side of the box to beat the goal for the 6-0 victory. Addiss finished her senior day with one goal and two assists and Jaroff had to two goals in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) tallied five saves for her six shut out of the year. The Hawks improve to 9-7-1 overall and 5-4-1 in SUNYAC competition.
Toby Klein tallied five saves in the loss for the Lakers. The Lakers fall to 5-11-1 overall and 1-8-1 in SUNYAC competition.
The Hawks return to the field Thursday October 30 at 3 pm against Drew for the final game of the season. The game will be played at Alumni Field on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
