New Paltz men’s soccer cruises to a 3-0 victory over Morrisville State

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win over visiting Morrisville State College Saturday afternoon on the 50th anniversary of New Paltz men’s soccer.

The Hawks had the first scoring chance in the 21st minute when Evan Martel (West Sayville, NY/Sayville) passed to Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, NY/St. Francis Prep) who ripped a shot that the Mustangs goalie made a one handed save from four yards out to deny the Hawks the lead.

The Hawks scored in the 35th minute when Martel took the free kick and a Morrisville defender failed to clear the ball and Lucas Natel (Mineola, NY/Mineola) fired a shot pass the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.

In the 45th minute, Joe Emberger (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketchum) hooked up with Garafola for a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks were looking to add another goal in the 56th minute when Natel flicked the ball to Joe Rose (Seaford, NY/Seaford) for a break-away, but Morrisville defender Andrew Stoneburg caught up with Rose to stop the shot.

Morrisville had a scoring chance in the 73rd minute off a Hawks foul when Andrew Stoneburg took the free kick and found Andrew Ketchum who turned and ripped a shot, but was denied by the Hawks goaltender.

In the 82nd minute, Natel added his second goal of the afternoon off a through ball from Garafola to increase the Hawks lead to 3-0.

Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tallied three saves to earn the win in net for the Hawks. The Hawks improve to 6-7-2 overall and 3-5 in SUNYAC competition.

Eric Stein tallied recorded the loss and tallied two saves in net. Morrisville State falls to 3-12-2 overall and 0-8 in SUNYAC competition.

The Hawks return to the field Wednesday at 3 pm against SUNY Oneonta on Alumni Field on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
