Field Drops Tough 1-0 Loss to #15 Stevens in Final Minute
The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team hosted #15 ranked Stevens Institute and fell 1-0 to the Ducks when Kara Borzillo scored her 19th goal of the season off a past from Jillian Price with 1:07 left in the game.
Junior Ann Marie Rudd (Garden City Park/New Hyde Park Memorial) made a big defensive save just 5:31 into the game, denying the shot by Allison Sheilds. New Paltz registered their first shot at 15 minutes when Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake/North Warren) blasted a shot, which Stephanie Smith knocked away. In the 28th minute, Jess Moore (Walden/Pine Bush) was on a one-on-one breakaway and fired a shot from the right side that deflected off of Smith, heading to the goal, but defender Erin Broderick sprinted in and swept the ball off the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
Stevens out shot New Paltz 9-0 in the second half and finally capitalized on their 14th corner of the game to come out with the 1-0 victory.
Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock/Onteora) took the loss, making eight saves while Smith made one save to earn the win.
New Paltz returns action on Saturday October 25th when they travel to Wells at 1pm.
