Tennis Defeats Oswego 8-1
The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team hosted Oswego tonight and claimed an 8-1 decision over the Lakers. The Hawks swept the doubles competition and won five of the six singles matches.
Oswego’s lone win of the night came at first singles after senior Dana Lim had to retire due to an injury. Stephanie Schara won second singles 6-0, 6-1 while Ingrid Maryansky and Juliette Brandon swept their competition 6-0, 6-0 at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
Lindsay Trifiletti won third singles in a tie break decision. She fell in the first set 6-7 before rebounding for a 6-1 win in the second set and dominated the tie breaker 10-2. Calder Mills-Lexvold played her first singles match of the season and fifth singles and earned the victory 1-6, 6-1 (11-9).
New Paltz returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Cortland to play Fredonia at 3:30pm.
