SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Loses 1-0 to Stevens in Championship
Newark, N.J. – The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team finished runner-ups at the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks fell to Stevens College 1-0 in the Championship Game.
The goal came in the 77th minute off a restart when Peter Bednarsky (Hackettstowns, NJ) scored from a feed from the middle of the box from Nolan Sandberg (Round Lake Park, IL) that gave Stevens the 1-0 victory.
First year James Altadonna (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) had a chance with eight seconds to go to tie the contest but Stevens goalie made an outstanding save to preserve the win. Senior Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tallied seven saves in the loss for the Hawks. The Hawks fall to 2-1-2 overall.
Altadonna, Carlucci and junior Anton Shipman (Howard Beach, NY/Molloy) were selected to the All-Classic tournament team, recognizing their performance throughout the weekend.
The Hawks return to the field Wednesday September 10 against Bard College at 4 p.m. on the SUNY New Paltz campus.
