SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer could not overcome two first half goals in loss

NEW PALTZ, NY-  SUNY New Paltz fell to visiting SUNY Cortland 2-0, in the first SUNYAC contest for the Hawks Saturday afternoon.

SUNY Cortland scored the first goal in the 33rd minute when E.J. Reutemann passed to Bryan Patterson, who then one touched the ball past the defender and beat the Hawks goalkeeper. 

In the 42nd minute, the Red Dragons Reutemann took a corner and found Steve Bartkowski to beat the goalie right side.

In the second half, New Paltz freshman James Altadonna (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) had a chance at the six yard box to cut the lead in half, but Cortland’s goalie made a great save to maintain the two goal lead.

Eight minutes later, Tommy Willoughby (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) took a throw in and the ball found its way to Sean Reminick (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) who then took the shot and Cortland’s goalie made another great save to keep the Hawks at zero.

Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY/Goshen) recorded the loss in goal tallying seven saves on the afternoon.  New Paltz falls to 3-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in SUNYAC Competition.

Steve Axtell recorded the win in goal tallying five saves.  SUNY Cortland improves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in SUNYAC Competition.

New Paltz returns to the field Friday September 26 against SUNY Fredonia at 4 p.m. on the SUNY New Paltz campus.
