Schloss Tallies Lone Goal in 4-1 Loss

The SUNY New Paltz (1-5, 0-3 SUNYAC) field hockey team traveled to Oneonta (4-3, 1-1 SUNYAC) this evening for a SUNYAC match up and lost to the Red Dragons 4-1.
Oneonta’s Ainsley Stoll tallied a hat trick to lead host Oneonta to victory. The Red Dragons controlled play for most of the first half and got on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when Stoll scored her first of the game. Oneonta extended their lead to 2-0 at the 28 minute mark.
New Paltz made the game interesting in the 58th minute on an unassisted goal by sophomore Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake/North Warren) to cut the Oneonta lead in half. Schloss stole the ball at the New Paltz defensive 25 yard line and dodged several people down the field with her scrappy play. She dove as she shot the ball, which was knocked away by the goalkeeper, but Schloss quickly got up and knocked in the rebound to complete the remarkable possession.
Stoll scored four minutes later for a 3-1 lead and completed the scoring in the 64th minute. Sophomore Grace Watson (Bayville/Locust Valley) posted seven saves in net for the Hawks.
New Paltz will return to action on Saturday when they host Geneseo at 1pm.
