Late goal gives SUNY New Paltz 2-2 tie against SUNY Cobleskill
NEW PALTZ, N.Y.- New Paltz used a late goal to salvage a tie with SUNY Cobleskill 2-2 in 2OT, Tuesday evening.
New Paltz opened the scoring 12 minutes into the contest when Sean Reminick (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) touched a through ball to James Altadonna (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) who beat Cobleskill’s goalkeeper, to give the Hawks 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later SUNY Cobleskill tied the game when David Gardner (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) tallied his first of two goals on the evening when he ripped a shot off a cross from Kwame Sarpong (Bronx, NY/Beacon) that beat the goalkeeper to his left. In the 66th minute Emile Barnett (Huntington, NY/John Glenn) crossed the ball and found Gardner for his second goal.
With less than four minutes remaining the Hawks tied the game when Tommy Willoughby (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) one touched to Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, NY/St. Francis Prep) who then found Lucus Natel (Mineola, NY/Mineola) to beat the goal top shelf.
Cobleskill had a chance to win the game at the 88th minute when Gardner was on a break-way and he was stripped by Hawks defender Anton Shipman (Howard Beach, NY/ Molloy) to preserve the 2-2 tie.
Patrick Carlucci (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tallied eight saves on the evening for the Hawks. New Paltz record stands at 1-0-2 overall. The Hawks travel to Rutgers-Newark Friday evening for a tournament.
Travis Hall (Athens, PA/Athens Area) tallied three saves on the evening, earning a tie for the Tigers, in the school’s first ever NCAA Division III contest. SUNY Cobleskill record stands at 0-0-1 overall.
