Field Hockey Drops Season Opener 4-1

The New Paltz field hockey team opened their season today against Drew and fell to the Rangers 4-1.

Drew took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Kati Eggert off a penalty corner. Mary Esposito sent a pass from the left side of the field, that Eggert knocked into the right side corner of the cage. In the second half, Eggert knocked in her second goal at 49:19 with the assist credited to Nicole DiBattista.

New Paltz cut the lead to one on a goal at 52:38 when junior Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa) knocked in a pass from Lauren Nicomini (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional). Five minutes later Drew reclaimed the two goal lead when Elizabeth Law scored her first goal of the game before completing the scoring at 68:36.

Sophomore Grace Watson (Bayville/Locust Valley) took the loss in net as she made 13 saves for New Paltz.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday when they host will travel to Rochester on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
