Coach Seward and Adirondack Win Gold
SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball coach Jamie Seward has completed his run at the Empire State Games Gold Medal. On July 27, 2008 he completed the run with Adirondack Region women’s basketball team by beating the Western Region 70-57.
On Thursday the 24th of July they defeated the Western Region 87-73, controlling most of the game Adirondack cruised to the victory. Western cut the lead to ten points with about four minutes remaining in the second half, but Adirondack was too strong.
On Friday night, Adirondack faced off against Hudson Valley and defeated Hudson 61-59. Hudson Valley mid-way through the second half took the lead from Adirondack, but Adirondack stormed back to victory. Hudson Valley defeated Adirondack and Coach Seward last year in the gold medal round.
Saturday evening, Adirondack fell to New York City 69-67, as the Adirondack Region could not put together a run to over take the lead from NYC. With the loss, the Adirondack Region and New York City Region had to play a 20 minute playoff game, with the winner going to the gold medal game against the Western Region. In the playoff game Adirondack won 39-31 to advance to the gold medal round.
Sunday afternoon, Jamie Seward and the Adirondack Region team won the gold medal defeating the Western Region team 70-57. Western jumped out to an early 13-2 lead, but Adirondack was determined to win gold after finishing with Silver in 2007 and Bronze in 2006. They took control of the game and cruised to the victory and the gold. The gold medal gives Coach Seward and Adirondack three straight medals and Adirondack’s first Empire State Games Gold Medal since 2001. This was Seward’s last year coaching the Empire State Games and he finishes on top.
