Baseball Wins 10-6 Over Mt. St. Mary

NEW PALTZ, NY — The baseball team hosted Mt. St. Mary this afternoon in a non-conference match-up and defeated the Knights 10-6. The Hawks improve to 18-17 on the season while Mt. St. Mary falls to 11-20.
Senior Doug Chaputian was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Hawks. Devin Scalabrini was 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Mike Marash, Tyler Terlekcy and Kevin Paino each added two hits. John Giuliano earned the win on the mound in six innings of work, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Mt. St. Mary lead the 4-3 after five innings before New Paltz plated three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. With one out and runners on second and third Marash hit a RBI double, Joel Judson hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Terlecky singled up the middle.
New Paltz increased their lead to 8-4 in the seventh inning with two runs. Chaputian singled and advanced to second on a walk by Mike Fasolo, before both runners advanced on a wild pitch and were hit home on a double to left center by Alex Cadmus. Mt. St. Mary cut the lead to 8-6 with two runs in the eighth but the Hawks tallied the final two runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring. With two outs, Paino singled and was hit home on a triple by Chaputian. Chaputian was hit home when Scalabrini reached on an error.
New Paltz returns to action tomorrow when they travel to SUNYIT for a 12pm doubleheader, before returning home to host Union at 12pm on Saturday.
