Baseball Splits with Union on Senior Day
NEW PALTZ, NY — The baseball team hosted Union this afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader and tallied four runs in the sixth inning en route to the 4-3 victory in game one, before falling 2-0 in the nightcap.
The Hawks trailed 2-0 in the sixth inning before they were able to string together six hits. Tyler Terlekcy hit an RBI single to score Kevin Paino who started the inning with a double. Alex Cadmus and Doug Chaputain hit back to back singles to load the bases, before Mike Fasolo hit a sacrifice fly to send Terlecky home for the game tying run. Javy Lopez hit home the go ahead run with a single to right field and Neal Rosengren hit an RBI single to left field to send an insurance run across the plate. Union made things interesting in the top of the seventh, scoring an unearned run with two outs for a 4-3 game. With runners on third and second, two outs, Jeff Stith came up with a game ending strikeout.
Rosengren was 2-3 as the Hawks totaled nine hits and left six on base. Stith threw a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks while he struck out five batters.
In game two, Union tallied an early unearned run in the first inning and added an insurance run in the seventh for the 2-0 final. Union out hit New Paltz 9-6 as the Hawks left five runners on base. Jesse Marsh, Kevin Paino, Joel Judson, Tyler Terlekcy, Zach Potter and Javier Lopez each tallied a hit. Jimmy Donohue took the loss on the mound, allowing one unearned run on seven hits with three strikeouts in five innings. Mike Virga and Justin Duchin each threw one inning to complete the game.
New Paltz will complete their season on Wednesday April 30th at 4pm when they travel to Vassar.
