Union Capitol District Track Classic

The New Paltz Cross Country runners competed in the Capitol District Track Classic at Union College in Schenectady, NY on April 26th. Other teams in attendance were RPI, U of Albany, St. Rose, Union, Bard, Vassar, Herrkima College, SUNY Cobleskill and Williams.
The ladies competed in both the 1500 meter run and the 800 meter run. Leading the team with great performances in both races was sophomore Lisa Cassaro. She set a personal best in the 1500 in 5:16.46(PR) and followed that up 30 minutes later with a 2:35:40 in the 800m. Cassaro placed 12th and 10th respectively. She was followed by teammates Lori Brown in 5:19.23 and 2:38.34, Danielle Harmon 5:20.49 and 2:40.77, and Rebecca Shuriff 5:37.57(PR) and 2:47.74(PR). The ladies were competitive in all their heats and did an excellent job in executing their pre-race strategies.
The sole competitor in the men’s 1500 and 800 meter runs was freshman Rob Webster. Robert set personal bests in both events running his 1500 in 4:48.00 and 800 in 2:19.78.
The Hawks wrapped up their meet with Nick Avello, obliterating his previous personal best in the 5,000 meter run by one minute and fifteen seconds. Avello ran 16:48.68 placing 7th in the race.
The Hawks look forward to competing in their final meet of the year on May 2nd at the first annual Vassar Invitational. The meet will begin 6:00 pm.
