Baseball Shuts Out Oneonta in SUNYAC Sweep
NEW PALTZ, NY — The baseball team hosted Oneonta Sunday afternoon and shutout the Red Dragons 2-0, 1-0 in a SUNYAC sweep. The Hawks advance to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
In game one it was a scoreless battle until the bottom of the third. Robert Helf singles and advanced to third on a double by Jesse Marsh. With runners on second a third with one out Joel Judson hit a two run RBI single which would prove to be the game winning hit. New Paltz totaled seven hits and left five on base while Oneonta tallied four hits and left eight on base. Jimmy Donohue earned the win the mound allowing four hits, three walks and striking out five batters in seven innings.
In the second game, Neal Rosengren walked to start the third inning, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Judson walked, stole second and advanced to third on an error, while Rosengren advanced home for the lone run of the game. Oneonta collected five hits and left seven on base as New Paltz totaled four hits and left nine on base. Zachary Potter pitched a complete game allowing five hits, three walks and striking out nine batters to earn the win.
New Paltz returns to action on Monday April 7th at 1:30 when they travel to Scranton for a non-conference doubleheader.
